The film that I am going to review is one that I loved from beginning to end. It meant a lot to me and will continue to be one of my favorite movies of all time. In case you have not guessed from the journal title, the movie that I will review is "Where the Wild Things Are" directed by the talented Spike Jonez.
When I saw the previews for Wild Things, I was excited. I just had to see this movie!! It was my favorite story when I was little, and it still holds a special place in my heart. So I INvited my good friend, JayCee or whiteoni as she is known on deviantart, and we went downtown to catch on afternoon showing. I am happy that we did! I was astounded from beginning to end. The monsters, the forests, the acting, I loved everything about this work of art The opening credits were interesting and the title sequence was SO unexpected, but so appropriate to the film. it was genious. (I will not give anything away). The young actor who plays Max (Max Records) was outstanding! He captured all the emotions associated with children, good and bad; from happiness and innocence to raw anger and deep sadness. I really felt for him at some of the more intense moments of the movie. He made me care, and that is what good actors do.
This wild things were awesome. They looked so real and were very likeable. To see these monsters that I grew up with brought to life on the big screen was a treat. They were wild and even loveable at times. Watching them run around the forest in a "wild rumpus" filled me with child-like excitement!!. My favorite ones were Carol, the gentle yet anger-prone monster and KW, the soft-spoken and motherly one. I do not want to talk too much about them, because I would be spoiliing the movie. So see fer yer selves!!!
I loved the way music was used. It was important in telling the story because it set the mood. Im buyin' the soundtrack!!
It makes me mad when critics bash "WIld Things.." for being too "dark." If you just concentrate on the dark aspects of this film, then you are missing the point. Overalll, I think this is an uplifting film. Although there are a few darker elements throughout the movie, I think they were not THAT graphic and definetely not inappropriate for children. Do I think small children will understand some of the deep themes, probably not. But the director made this masterpeice for us, the children who grew up on the book. It is meant to show childhood angst and what it is like to be lonley. the director and writer captured that beautifully.
This movie was inspiring and loveable,. an emotional roller-coaster. I am not afraid to admit that some of the scenes were very VERY moving to me, Especially towards the end.
"Where the WIld Things Are" is going to be one of my favorite films of all time. Expect some fan art in the future
So that is all, GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!
